With American foods there are hotdog stands, pizza parlors, hamburger joints, casual restaurants, and several other different genres, which we have all grouped accordingly. So also with Japanese foods in the islands, there are many restaurants solely devoted to a certain style of cooking, each very different from the other. There are establishments devoted only to yakiniku and nothing else, others to just nabe meals, and yet others, strictly ramen.
There are 10 distinct types of restaurants listed here, so if you are unfamiliar with Japanese foods, hopefully you will find this section interesting and a place to learn about the various styles. With such a large contingent of Japanese nationals temporarily or permanently living in the islands and with the number of local Japanese reaching about 30% of the entire population, there are many excellent choices to choose from.
