What exactly is "A Closer Look" page?
This section is, quite basically - a blog! They are accounts of an experience or experiences I and the crew have had while eating at the various restaurants. Because we don't have to deal with the necessarily ordered (and thus somewhat rigid) structure of the guidebook-style main pages, we have much more freedom to share our experiences with you in a relaxed, "un-proper," and at times, "politically incorrect" style. Just personal views and opinions, is all. It's actually more about having fun then just dispensing information. That's how it seems to me, anyway!
While the main pages of this site will benefit those who need a basic, all-around overview, these pages offer a lot more detail (albeit a subjective one) of the individual restaurants themselves. Sometimes we need to step back and assess the situation with a macro view (main pages), while other times we want to step in and focus with a micro view ("closer look" pages). Neither lens works adequately for the other without distorting the image, so we decided to try and give you both!
Speaking of images... As pictures are a highly important and particularly powerful means to convey an experience, we also try to snap as many pictures as possible without getting redundant. And remember, these are not the high-quality shots most of us have been accustomed to in this age of big-budget marketing - most of them are produced after long hours in a professional studio or "highly altered" environment where the food is not even eaten afterwards! And sometimes, it's not even food, but substitutes that can range from plastics and glass to glue, car oil, or grease - honest! With the exception of the best Hawaii Regional and fine-dining restaurants, what you see in pics is seldom what you get. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.
I try not to edit as much as possible, but when you're taking pics of real food, food that we, ourselves are eating, in a realistic environment and with such ever-changing and challenging conditions, I do what I can to present the dishes as my own eyes saw them, not necessarily as the camera saw them. Sometimes, the lighting is so horrific that it gets embarrasing, but still, as long as the shots give you a better idea of the dishes, I'll put it out anyway.
Just about every pic on this site is taken by yours truly. I haven't pasted my name on any of them, so please, if you're thinkin' about using them somewhere, just do me a favor and lemme know about it, allright?
It is my sincere hope that you all can enjoy these pages even half as much as I did (as much would be impossible!), and continue to view each new entry as they become available. And I'll do my best to keep 'em comin'!
Thanks again for stopping by!
